Rare Locality GOLD Ore Specimen - - Cannon Mine, Washington - - Ex. Bart Cannon Piece
Item History & Price

The Cannon mine closed in 1994 due to declining reserves and the refusal to grant additional exploratory drilling programs that would extend beneath the city of Wenatchee. It produced 1.25 million ounces of gold and 2 million ounces of silver during its short life. It was the second largest underground gold mine in the US. The gold mineralization was largely confined to very fine-grained free gold and electrum. The mineralization occurred mostly in rhyodacite just as is presented with this piece. Gold grades averaged about .15 ounces of gold per ton in early efforts but later grades to over .20 ounces of gold were discovered and delineated. As mining ceased rather recently, there is some excellent information about the mine and its history and geology. A simple Google search for "Cannon mine Wenatchee" will produce excellent results.

I'm reminded of the firm pledge printed on the old Foote Mineral Company mineral catalogs from more than a century ago,
"Quality of specimens is assured as we permit return of specimens at our expense."
