HISTORY
Lily and Paul Alexander lived in Hollywood, California, during the 1950's and 1960's. During these years the cottage industry in Southern California was extremely popular. A skilled artist and designer Lily Alexander created the beautiful and collectible enamel over copper decorative objects. Lily's husband Paul marketed the lovely designs and objects.
DESCRIPTION
This listing is for a vintage signed Lily Alexander Mid Century Modern enameled copper dish with a mission arts and crafts design and motif. The dish is round in shape and from the underside you can determine that the underlying glaze tones are navy blue in color.
The copper wash over top of the navy glaze is speckled on the top of the dish. The center of the dish carries a very California mission style arts and crafts linear design. The motif is further embellished with the addition of a circle of red glaze jewels which in my opinion have quite a sun motif. The bottom of the dish has been signed "Alexander".
CONDITION
This vintage Lily Alexander enamel over copper dish is in overall wonderful condition. I did notice one area of mention on the outer edge of the dish where there is a small chip in the glaze which measures approximately .75mm. in width. The glaze is quite thin on the outer edge of the dish which most likely caused the small area of wear.
Otherwise I did not notice any other signs of wear to this lovely piece. This Lily Alexander dish has come from a smoke free estate collection and is odor free.
