Exterior of the box beautifully and skilfully carved with wild animals, birds, fish and foliage.Lovely detailed pictorial carving to the fitted internal wooden compartment lids ~ sadeli work and bovine bone surrounds.Gorgeous deep purple velvet lining behind the mirror and below the fitted lift out compartments.Box in very good antique condition internally and externally ~ s...ome expected losses to the sadeli work and bovine bone surrounds, (two pieces of loose bone included), other expected signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Fitted mirror with usual loss of silvering.Comes with a spare sadeli topped barrel, and three small spools of thread. The two front upturned barrels appear to be an old alteration, I think it likely that the additional sadeli topped barrel would have been housed in one of these bone surrounds.Box measures 32cms x 23.5cms x 14cmsStands on its original and elegant ormolu feet, green baize to the underside of the box.A beautiful and wonderfully complete Vizagapatam box with exceptional carving.
