Offered for sale is a rare Gonda Hirosuke (1865-1937) moriage cloisonné-enamel vase.Measuring approximately 6.5" (16.5cm) and 3.25" (8.25cm) at its widest point, the vase depicts red and white Irises. There is a "halo" at the peak of the white Iris measuring approximately 2cm*1cm.There is a tiny white discoloration near the base between the leaves, of the red Iris and another near the upper leaf beneath the stem of ...the white flower. (Refer pictures.)The Gonda trademark at the bottom of the vase consists of the sacred jewels (magatama) the Japanese character "shiro" which means the color white. The color white was important to Gonda Hirosuke, as he apparently referred to his workshop as the "white phoenix" or "white hall" which may reflect his source of inspiration for his workshop.
The vase would make a fine addition to any collection.
