Shown with cuts from the 1868 and the 1899 Catalogs. This is an original caliper in good condition, hardened and about 3/16" thick. In addition to being a caliper, the slots on the outside measure wire gage. The AWG standard of today was developed from this company, and even today many refer to it as the "Brown & Sharp gauge" like they do for the Brown & Sharp taper in machine tools.Samual Darling was ...a partner in the company from 1866 to 1892, and this tool is from that period.The caliper jaws are 2" deep, the the scale is graduated in 1/32". The wire sizes are from 1 to 32. No non-original markings nice patina.

These are all from a private collection from a machinist/mechanic. These are unmodified and "as found", with only perhaps oil for lubrication on them. All of them are true antiques- more then 100 years, and many from the 19th century. Where possible, we have viewed them with a contemporary catalog cut.
