This is an approximately 2 1/2” x 4” authentic, original, antique CDV carte de viste photograph from the late 1800s showing a child who is presumably deceased. This sweet little boy or girl is, unfortunately, most likely dead at the time of the photo session. His/her semi-closed eyes and lifeless facial expression are definite clues. This photo was taken by J. B. Alexander at No. 1930 Carson Street, South Side, Pittsburgh, Pa. A three word name is written in pencil on the back of t...he photo, which I assume to be the name of the child in the photograph. It is hard to decipher the handwriting, but it seems to possibly be Beth Iberthia Hemming. It was a somewhat common practice to have a professional photo taken of a child soon after death as a keepsake remembrance of them because most children were never photographed on any regular basis, if at all. Their death was a wake-up call for the need to always remember what they looked like.This photo is in very good 120+ year old condition with no issues to report. There are no rips, tears, or creases. It will be a great addition to your antique (and specifically post mortem) photo collection. I have other photos listed.
