The teapot was designed by Martin Bibby and made by Swineside Pottery which he owned with his wife, Judy. Swineside Pottery was a small operation opened by the Bibby's in 1978 in.....Swineside, England! As their teapot designs gradually became famous, they eventually had to relocate to a larger location in Yorkshire, England and changed the name to Swineside Teapottery. The Bibbys retired in 2004 and the business name was changed to Ceramic Inspirations under the new ownership. They are still in... business in Yorkshire and connected to Cardew Design. They retained some of the same employees who worked for the Bibbys.
The Bellhop Teapot is one of the best known and more difficult to obtain teapots from Swineside. It was originally released in 1985 and only made for a few years. It was named the most famous teapot design made between 1980 & 1990 and is featured in a number of museum collections. It is shown on the cover of The Eccentric Teapot: 400 Years of Invention by Garth Clark (1989).
In very good condition with no damages but has some age related crazing to it.Stands 10 1/2".
