Item History & Price
Description: KITTINGER Williamsburg Ball & Claw Mahogany CW-24 Piecrust Tilt Top Table Rare. This exceedingly rare tilt-top or tripod table is the finest reproduction piecrust table ever made for the Colonial Williamsburg Reproduction Collection. The table was replicated from an antique owned by the family of United States Supreme Court Justice John Marshall c. 1760 and was d...isplayed in the Masterworks Gallery in Colonial Williamsburg. This table was meticulously carved and crafted from one piece of 1 1/2 inch thick plank of solid Brazilian mahogany. The remarkable bird cage mechanism allows for a highly functional turning and tilting of the table top. The turn shaft and tripod legs are hand shaped from single pieces of mahogany, with shell carved knees which terminate into robust ball and call feet which are dovetailed into the center post, adding to the overall structural integrity of the table. No detail was overlooked in making this one of the benchmarks of the Colonial Williamsburg Collection and an Icon piece for collectors. Stamped with the CW logo.
