This auction is for an escape and evasion compass built into a brass, King’s crown, RAF tunic button. Unscrew the top of the button to reveal the compass. The compass still works smoothly and points approximately North.The compass dial has three small holes in it (two on north and one on south) all in filled with, what looks like, radium paint. The north end is further identified with a spot of red paint. The edge of the compass glass has a small chip, but it does not alter its operation....This is also a rare left-hand thread version which in itself has its own very interesting story, as mentioned on Christopher Hutton's Wikipedia page under the 'Compasses' section.Video of button compass is available on request.The screw cap is in reasonable condition though quite tarnished and in need of a good polish, as is the button base.Please look closely at the photos as they form part of the description.
