Rare Republic of Korea Order of Military MeritIV Class Medal (Hwarang) Numbered Up for auction is an original Republic of Korea (South Korea) Order of Military Merit 4th Class also known as the Hwarang.The Hwarange Order of Military Merit (Hangul: 화랑무공훈장 , Hanja: 花郞武功勳章 ) is a military decoration awarded by the government of Republic of Korea. Outstanding military services by participating in an action in time of war or in quasi-state of war or by perf...orming his/her duty equivalent to combat, such as responding to the attack of an enemy in a contact area. The five point star shaped medal measures approximately 1 ½ inches in all directions. The medal itself is made of a non-magnetic metal (which appears to be bronze) and fine enamels and/or paint. The medal comes on what appears to be its original broach and colored ribbon that has two white stripes running vertically. The back of the medal is stamped with the number "347".I am not sure when the medal was manufactured, but would guess it dates from the 1950's or 1960's.The medal and ribbon both show some age. All enamel on the star design is in excellent condition. The ribbon also shows some soiling.Great addition to every collection !
