Mid 2012 Apple MacBook Pro (Unibody) 15-inch A1286 - MD546LL/AMac enthusiasts will appreciate this clean, upgraded 15” 2012 MBP! This is the final and best iteration of the legendary unibody MacBook Pro generation known for its ease of upgradability, port selection, durability and reliability. This particular iteration offers the most modern of features that you will find in MacBooks of this design, such as USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 which allows for use of Continuity features in mac...OS. This model year has no known graphics issues/failures, and has always been extremely reliable in every area. With the configuration of this unit, you will have a computer that feels just as fast, smooth and powerful as many brand-new Macs.
Condition - Used, great. See photos.Top casing is in decent shape. Most notably, there is a medium sized dent at the bottom left corner. (See photos 5 & 10a) The rest of the edge has highly minimal wear. Palm rest has little to no wear.Bottom cover was recently replaced with one of brand new condition, and looks absolutely stunning. There is only one tiny scratch on the side edge near the screw hole. (See photo 10b) No missing screws.Back of display is free of any dents, only minimal stress marks on the surface and one small scratch on the bottom edge. (See photo 10c) There is a minor knick on the top right corner. (See photo 10d)Display itself is nearly flawless. No dead pixels/lines, backlighting is perfectly even, no scratches present on the surface. Only an extremely faint line in the center where the screen meets the keyboard can be occasionally seen when the display is off. (See photo 11)The clutch cover (black plastic piece around display hinge) was just replaced with a new one.All components have been tested to be functional, with no hardware issues present at all. Machine has been thoroughly cleaned and dusted both inside and out.
CPU - 2.7 GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 Third Generation (Ivy Bridge) with 8 MB L3 CacheRare, top tier processor configuration that was available for this model. Still extremely powerful! Great for editing 1080p or even 4K video.
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M (1 GB VRAM) + Intel HD Graphics 4000 (1 GB VRAM)Suitable for moderate graphical tasks. Lighter games will run great, and again, video editing is a breeze. Navigation throughout the OS with gestures also feels buttery smooth thanks to these chips.
RAM - 16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 SODIMM SDRAMThis is the maximum amount of RAM supported in this machine and is more than enough for most tasks. System operates extremely well in this configuration.
Storage - 1 TB Axiom SSD + 1 TB Apple Hitachi HDDThanks to the fantastic upgrade capabilities this machine offers, it is possible to install dual storage drives. In the main drive bay, you will find a 1 TB OEM Apple hard disk drive, and in place of the standard optical drive is a 1 TB Axiom solid state drive. The two separate drives have been configured in a RAID 0 setup which allows both storage volumes to function as one single volume. This also doubles throughput speeds since each drive operates over its own SATA III connection, allowing for data transfer speeds of up to 12 Gbps. All this means you will enjoy lightning fast access to your data, as well as quick boot-up and app launch times with a huge 2 TB of storage!If you would like me to break apart the RAID so that the two drives function as separate volumes, let me know at the time of purchase if you win the auction.
Display - 1680x1050 Anti-glareThis unit features the rare and highly desirable option of the high-resolution, matte-texture finish anti-glare display. Screen looks fantastic, very bright, vivid colors, decent viewing angles and virtually no reflectivity.
Battery - OEM unit. Cycle count shows 790. Condition is normal. These batteries are designed to sustain 80% of original capacity after 1000 cycles. As shown in the photos, this one has held over 87% of its capacity after nearly 800, and still holds a fantastic charge! Replacement of the battery is very straightforward if that needs to be done.85W MagSafe power adapter included.
Operating System - Machine is currently running OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks. If you would like me to ship the computer with a different version, I am more than happy to reinstall any release between 10.7-10.15 or even 11.0 Big Sur beta. Keep in mind that because of the RAID setup, the newest version that can be installed without issues is macOS 10.12 Sierra. 10.13-10.15 do not allow you to install the OS on a RAID array, so if you would like to run any of those versions, it would be best to break apart the RAID and install to the SSD. However, there are still workarounds to get the newer versions running in RAID, but there will be compatibility issues. Nonetheless, if you’d like me to install 10.13, 10.14, 10.15 or 11.0 on the RAID array, I can do so. Let me know what your preferences are at the time of purchase if you win, so I can set it up exactly as you wish!
