1908 COLUMBIA TYPE BV GRAPHOPHONE - CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH - WITH BANNER DECALManufactured by: American Graphophone CompanyThe Columbia Type BV Graphophone was first introduced in 1908. The single-spring motor BV features a non-removable reproducer - unique to this model - mounted in a gold pinstriped cast-iron carriage. Other features include a nickel-plated mandrel, upper-works and bedplate, speed adjustment knob and slotted crank, and quarter-sawn oak cabinet with domed lid. The BV pla...ys standard 2-minute cylinder records - either hard wax or "indestructible" celluloid. Bedplate is stamped with serial number 465. Dark oak cabinet has original factory finish with original gold and black "Columbia Graphophone" banner decal and exposition "Grand Prize" awards decal - Paris 1900, St. Louis 1904 and Milan 1906. As is common with these models, the unusual four-ball 4" long flat-steel spring governor - exclusive to the BV - tends to be a bit noisier than governors used on other Columbia Graphophones. Original spring is a bit weak and will play through about 3/4 of a 2-minute record before needing winding.
