Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:31157865 |
Thislisting is for a rare NCR computer technology paperweight. This paperweight displays technologies used by NCR in their products. The paperweight demonstrates the production of logic chips starting with the chip itself. It shows the chip mounted in a package, and the final package, marked NCR80. The maker of the chip is Fairchild Semiconductor. It has a hard disk read/write head. It also has some very rare samples of thin film memory rods and plane. Thin ...film rod memory was similar to core memory it that it used magnetic fields to store information, but instead of a core, the rod was wrapped in a metal coil. Rod memory had been wiped-out by core by the early 1970s. Finding good samples of rod memory is incredibly difficult. It's a large paperweight at about is 3.5" round by 1.25" deep. The paperweight is excellent condition.
