ARTIST: GRANT TIGNER (1921-1997), LISTED CANADA ARTIST RARE CALIF CALIFORNIA LANDSCAPE OIL PLEIN AIR. Appears to have lived in California in the early 20th Century and later moved to Canada. This work appears to be from his Calif. CA period and painted around 1940. A ...California Eucalyptus style landscape with barn in the distance and painted similar to Sam Hyde Harris. Signed lower right, "Grant Tigner". LISTED: Askart. Oil on masonite. Original plein air gold frame -some wear to edges and a little of the gold chipped off (please see photos). Great use of color and style and would appeal to early 20th Century plein air impressionist collections."After which, he moved to Los Angeles, California where he took a job working for a couple of very good Illustrators. Grant (Grant Tigner) attended the Chouinard School of Art in his spare time. He learned much during his years in Los Angeles. First working for the illustrators, then later for advertising agencies producing ad layouts and designs, booklets, folders and like material.From California he went on to New York and worked as a freelance artist. He went on to study with Frank Reilly at the Arts Students League. CONDITION: Consider frame a bonus -very worn and needs to be replaced at some point. GOLD FRAME is chipped on front view surface corners with some pieces coming off (see photos) -original period frame needs touchups or replacement. In good vintage condition, could use a light cleaning -as found untouched condition. Overall bright and well kept, frame also has some wear to edges due to age. Original plein air style frame -some chips to corners and edge wear (see photos).
