Up for no reserve auction is a timeless mid century Omega Seamaster in stainless steel. This particular example, Reference 2759-7, takes design cues from a tradition that dates back to the earliest calatravas made by Patek Philippe, and the influence it has carried on the future of the Seamaster line has been undeniable. The slightly more common 2759-7SC features a standard central seconds and is also highly collectable; don't miss out on this piece with that l...ovely seconds subdial!
If you head over to Omega's webpage to check out the Seamaster 1948 limited edition reissues, you'll see the design elements inherited from this exact reference, including an all stainless steel case, small seconds sundial at 6 o'clock, 3 9 12 indices and the iconic "beefy lugs". In my opinion a true vintage example is all the more charming (and also won't run you $6000!)
This piece is original and is powered by the Omega caliber 410 movement. The serial number 153xxxxx dates this piece to the mid 1950s. The last service was over 6 years ago and photos of the caseback and movement were saved from that time; while it is winding and setting smoothly and running strong, it would benefit from an oiling and cleaning. It is keeping reasonable time for its age and the movement itself is certainly capable of keeping excellent time even by modern standards should you take it in for a routine service.
Please see high-solutions pics for its honest vintage condition, which I would say is quite good for its age. The dial has never been retouched and shows a warm patina as pictured. Looks great in various lights that I try to capture but photos don't quite do it justice. The 35mm stainless steel case shows normal signs of wear but does not have any notable flaws or damage. The watch comes on a non-Omega aged leather strap that I find complements the watch quite well (18mm lug width).
