Description: Antique /scarce / hard to find, circa 1860 white ironstone sugar canister with lid by Wedgwood & Co. (previously named Podmore Walker & Co). The original manufacturers pattern name is “Flora”. The pattern is also know as “Bordered Gooseberry” by collectors. This pattern and also this exact shape sugar is highlighted in the newsletter White Ironstone Notes, Vol. 16 No. 4, pages 4-8.
Siz...e: 7.5” tall (5.5” with lid off), 5.5” diameter at belly, 4.5” diameter rim
Condition Report: we found one small shallow (1/4” long) chip repair under rim (photographed). It is a small & shallow spall that was glued back into place leaving a faint trace outline. This sugar is otherwise in very nice condition for its age and is free of cracks and stains. The ironstone body appears to be high fired and is vitrified with minimal glaze crazing. It shows minimal signs of use-wear, but due to age may have slight imperfections such as minor scratches, trim wear, and/or slight manufacturing detects.
