In Shortwave and Ham Broadcasting, a "QSL" is a card or letter from a radio station confirming that the recipient heard the station. Both Shortwave and Ham Operators will send back a QSL card for reception reports. Many SWL's and Hams collect QSL cards. It's a fun, challenging, and rewarding aspect of the hobby.
In the early days of radio, stations were eager to know how well they were being heard around the world. To encourage listeners to write in and report their reception, stations offered to send listeners souvineer cards and letters. Soon, SWL's began to collect those cards from stations as avid as many people collect sports cards. Most International Broadcasters and hams respond to listener reception reports with QSL cards or letters. Many SWLs have amassed very cool and colorful collections of these souvenirs of their listening experiences. Use of these cards will greatly improve the odds of you getting a return QSL.
As a Beginner / Novice SWL, or even a Seasoned DX'r, You can use these cards until you decide you want to have your own created, or you can use these forever. If you do not have a registered station id, I will enter you into our DX Registry and assign you a callsign # for you to use. I will also include some basic SWL information for you as a guide.
