A VINTAGE JAMES KEILLER & SON'S, DUNDEE, 2lb TALLER SIZE STONEWARE MARMALADE JAR OR POT dating from the c1900s which has been found buried in a Victorian/Edwardian rubbish tip in north Devon area alongside several other pots a few months ago. The MALING, NEWCASTLE on TYNE made pot measures just under 14cm high by 10cm in diameter across the lip edge and is in AS DUG CONDITION having been carefully washed with no chips or flakes..., The pot has light glaze cracking, some tarnish and a patina that has been caused by over 100 years of prolonged burial, however there are two cracks and some manufacturers kiln blow faults with some age related usage wear on the base edge underneath which is only to be expected of these mass produced throwaway pots of the time. The cracks have been present for many years and are perfectly stable, the pot rings solid when rapped hard with the knuckles. Please note each pot is hand made and has its own individual markings making it unique and different.
