Here's an authentic 125 year old Healy & Bigelow Indian Sagwa medicine bottle from an actual traveling medicine show which featured real live indians!....HEALY & BIGELOW / INDIAN SAGWA boldly emb on sunken side panels....an indian chief in headdress bold emb on sunken front panel....Unusual A in diamond glasshouse maker's mark on bottom.....Hand blown in mold....hand tooled double ring collar....aqua...rect...large size 8 5/8"tall....Good condition with no chips or damage. A du...g bottle with haze. "Doc" Healy (who wasnt really a doctor), and "Texas Charlie" Bigelow were a couple enterprising men with no medical training whatsoever, who began the Kickapoo Indian Medicine Co. in the early 1880s. They hired actual indians to tour the country in their travelling medicine shows, which according to eye witness accounts, were very entertaining in the days long before radio or television. The Kickapoo shows lasted for hours and during the intermissions, the indians would come out into the audience with baskets full of the KICKAPOO INDIAN SAGWA, just exactly like this bottle.... and other bottled medicines for sale by the company. The show would not resume until every bottle was sold! These travelling shows toured the country back in the 1880s and 1890s. Their "Principal Wigwam", (headquarters), was located in New Haven, Conn. This INDIAN SAGWA bottle dates from this early traveling medicine show era of the 1880s......
