This log comes from ash flow tuffs determined bythe Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology to fall in the range of 17 to 6 millionyears old. Northern Nevada was very active with volcanoes during theentire Cenozoic, so geologists have gone to considerable effort to map and dateall of the intrusive and extrusive igneous lithography th...roughout thestate. Maple is also one of the genera that is included in the study ofUpper Cedarville Flora which is only a few miles north of Duck Valley. Check out our photomicrograph and notice how much the medullary rays deformedwhen they must have been waterlogged and then subjected to enormous pressuresfrom tons of volcanic ash being dumped upon the log. This is a greatpiece for the microscope enthusiast as well as the collector concentrating onaesthetic appeal or representative localities. This specimen measures 5” x 4.75" on the polished face and it is a slab 5/8" thick.
