Item History & Price
Item description is keyed to the numbered images above.
The numbers and the word WATERMARK do not appear on the actual slide or slides.
Image 5:The wood-mounts measure 7” x 4”. The glass and the wood are without crack on all four slides.
Image 6:The edges of the wood-mounts.
Image 1:Four slides juxtaposing women who are well off with women who are living in poverty. The first two slid...es are from the fraternal group the Ancient Order of United Workmen, which dates back to 1868 and was one of the first fraternal orders to provide life insurance as a membership benefit, so that widows and orphans could live the way they are depicted in this first image and not…
Image 2:…the way they are depicted in the second, with plaster falling off their walls and cracked glass in their picture frames and a view of factories out their windows.
Image 3:The first of a pair of slides with a temperance theme. The first depicts a mother and child surrounded by friends and family in a bucolic setting. Everybody’s happy. No alcohol is involved.
Image 4:The next slide depicts two obnoxiously well-to-do women visiting a less fortunate sister in a cold shabby room with broken furniture and a husband passed out on a table with an overturned glass next to him. The two visiting women obviously started their trip with the words “Let’s go slumming!”
