Original Description:
EXTRAORDINARY AMERICAN FEDERAL TILT-TOP ROUND MAHOGANY TABLE.  Fresh from a private collector in Brooklyn Heights, we have just purchased this circa 1840 American tilt-top table, that is not only exceptional for its quality but also for its amazingly fine original condition.  No shrinkage cracks or bad stains, only very minor wear to the corner of its pedestal and a very small loss to the molding on the table apron.  Spectacularly matched crotch mahogany, that meets in t...he table center with a small round inset of a lighter wood.  The supremely elegant base features a figured, multi-sided pedestal with three carved claw feet and acanthus leaf design.  All original, with a clean, warm, smooth, glowing patina.  Original hardware and casters, no warping, truly extraordinary for a piece of furniture that is almost 180 years old.  We have had several of these types of tables over our 43 years in the antiques trade, never one in this fine a condition.  40 " diameter x 28 1/2" tall.
