About "RESTORED BY RAGAN" Vintage Bullet Pencils:
Most of the vintage bullet... pencils I restore are between 70 to 90 years old. Some are older. My goal is to restore them to where it looks like you stepped back in time and got them.
The ERASERS on my restored bullet pencils are NEW and soft, so you can use them. Many of the replacement erasers on my restorations have to be custom fitted. The pencil stub is also vintage and is cleaned, and given a fresh sharpen.
But just putting a new eraser in a bullet pencil is not restoring it. I have an "Extensive Restoration Process" which takes lot of time. Some bullet pencils, especially the ones with brass-plated fittings, take hours to restore.
The ORIGINAL ERASERS in old bullet pencils are like petrified wood, and as mentioned, if this bullet pencil has an eraser...it was replaced with a NEW, soft eraser. The BODY has been cleaned inside and out. The FERRULE, COUPLER, and TIP have been meticulously polished.These vintage bullet pencils have been cleaned inside and out, polished, buffed, pampered, and treated with obsessive care. It has taken me years to perfect my restoration methods and I'm very proud of my restored bullet pencils, and think you will agree that they look even better in person.
As far as I know, I am the first person to offer RESTORED vintage bullet pencils on eBay, but imitators will follow. So I hope that when you see the term "Restored by RAGAN, " you will know that you are getting something extra special, and that a lot of time, patience, and skill went into the process. I've been doing this for many years, and the quality of the restoration work shows.
My restored bullet pencils were there as history unfolded. I like to wonder about the people who bought them back in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Was a war going on? Was Elvis playing on the radio? Were the girls wearing poodle skirts? Did someone get it as a keepsake when they were on a family vacation?
MY GRADING SYSTEM:
NP - NEAR PRISTINE: Most vintage bullet pencils are between 70 and 90 years old. These Near Pristine grade bullet pencils look just like they did when they were brand new. Not only are the bullet pencils rare, it is very rare to have them in this amazing condition.
E - EXCELLENT: These restored bullet pencils look great but have small imperfections. There may be slight wear, and/or discolorations in the metal/brass ferrules, couplers, and tips, that would not buff out, or very small spots or dings in the body.
G - GOOD: These restored bullet pencils look good, but have some "Character." There may be a dent, or an obvious spot or chip. There may be some visible wearing so you can tell it has some age to it. However, it was just too rare or beautiful to send to the graveyard, or get put on the discount eBay bargain bin.
