This 19th century SILK Civil Rank Badge bears a signature (Chinese Characters) on the back,
possibly a family name, the maker or some important designation.
It features a Golden CRANE facing the sun (left).
The crane represents
the 1st rank and is also a symbol of longevity and wisdom.
It measures approximately 11" x 11 1/2"....
This would have been affixed to the back of the robe.
The badge's decoration consists of gold metallic embroidery / couching set on a black silk background.
There are waves and rocks and bats and other Chinese symbolism.
This would look nice framed however there are some loose threads.
