Rufus Parnell "Parnelli" Jones (born August 12, 1933) is an American former professional racing driver and racing team owner. He is notable for his accomplishments while competing in the Indianapolis 500 and the Naja 1000 desert race. In 1962 he became the first driver to qualify over 150 mph, and he won the race in 1963. During his career as an owner, he won the Indy 500 in 1970 & 1971. He is associated with the famous Boss 302 Mustang with his wins using the engine in the 1970s.Later, Parnelli Jones wanted a fun car to drive. After racing with Saleen in the 80's, and being close with Saleen headquarters in Southern California, Parnelli Jones and Steve Saleen worked together to produce a 500 example run of the limited edition you see here. Produced, designed and engineered by Saleen, it's Parnelli that instigated the idea, gave the prototype development, approved the car, and took a pair for his own use.
