ALBATROS AL127 PASSENGER SHIP “NALDERA” 1/1250 SCALE METAL MODEL SHIPThe Naldera was built at Greenock by Caird & Co. for Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co. A Steel Twin Screw Steamer, she was begun in 1914, but not completed until 1920 because of the War and was the first three-funneled steamship in the Company. She was used as a troopship for war service and after WWI she returned to the service on the Australian route. In 1931 she was transf...erred to the London-Bombay-Far East service route. She was laid up and scrapped at Bo'ness in 1938.ALBATROS AL232 “MS SANTA MARIA” 1/1250 SCALE METAL MODEL SHIPMS Santa Maria was built by the Furness Ship building Company in Haverton, UK in 1928 for the American Shipping Company, Grace Lines.She was built for First Class luxury service between New York and the West Coast of South America via the Panama Canal.During World War II Santa Maria was sold to the US Navy in August 1940 and converted to a Navy Transport ship with anti-aircraft defense.She was renamed USS Barnett, repainted all white and used to train Marines, but in January 1941 the USS Barnett was refitted for war duty. During World War II USS Barnett operated both in the Atlantic and Pacific transporting troops, casualties of war and cargo. In February 1943 she was repainted again with camouflage and reclassified as an attack transport ship.During a bombing attack off the coast of Sicily in July 1943, she sustained damage to her hull. She steamed to Algeria for repairs and was returned to service to operate on the Pacific until September 1945. She was decommissioned in May 1946. In July 1946 MS Barnett was transferred to the Maritime Commission where she was sold at auction in March 1948 to Lauro Lines. In July 1948 she arrived in Italy where she was rebuilt as a modern passenger and Migrant liner for voyages to Australia and South America where she was renamed Surriento in May 1949. MS Santa Maria had a long adventurous career under several names, in September 1966 she sailed, under her own power, to La Spezia, Italy where she was broken up. ATTENTION: These models were made by fine German model makers Albatros. They are in good condition, but ship models may require some attention or minor repairs upon arrival.
