PLEASE NOTE: We have a handful of Alaska Stereoviews listed and will be listing more Alaska RPPCs.
We combine purchases and charge a flat rate whether you purchase 1 or 10 postcards or photos of the same size. If you purchase various sizes, the single basic shipping rate will be that of the large photo. First Class Mail rates have increased. First Class has gone up from a flat rate of 2....66 to all zones and is now based upon postal zones. Rates further from Oregon will be higher. We are sorry about this. Please use the ebay ap below to calculate postage. We pack with great care using heavy cardboard. If you purchase multiples, PLEASE await our invoice as ebay will charge you more for more than 1 purchased photo.
NOTE: The above photos are close to the actual postcard. The actual photo is a rich brownish color and has very good contrast. It has does NOT have the PINKS seen in the sky and water, etc. It is MUCH NICER! The blacks specks and squiggles seen in the light areas were on the negative.
IMPORTANT: The red text on the front of the above photos is there for identification purposes and is not on the actual photo. This is an interesting antique Real Photo Postcard. It is captioned "2 'Takuakhl.'" and it is marked at the lower left with the initials for Winter & Pond of Juneau. There is a cabin with a bridge walkway in the foreground with a U.S. Flag flying, and we believe Norris Glacier is across the water. We have found conflicting information. One source mentioned a cabin belonging to Winter and Pond with a view of Norris Glacier. Another mentioned a Cabin on a Rocky Hillside, period. We googled "Takuakhl, Alaska" and a long listing of photo postcards came up at the site titled "Guide to Collection" at www.azrefs.gov. There are a number of photo postcards described that are similar to this one. One is titled "Norris Glacier from Porch at Takuakhl". Norris Glacier is near Juneau, where Lloyd Valentine Winter and Edwin Percy Pond operated their studio. They were preeminent Alaska photographers historically documenting the Tlingit, Miners and Mining, the Klondike and the Gold Rush, Glaciers and much more, with photography. The postcard is a rich and nice brownish color and has very good contrast. The black speck and squiggles on the lighter areas of the photo were on the negative and are not damage. There is a lot of silvery sheen from the printing process on this photo. It is in very good condition with bumped corner tips. The upper left has a slight diagonal bend at its very tip. There is a little wear at some of the edges. The postcard is 5 3/8 by 3 3/8 inches and we estimate it to be from about 1918 to 1922 or so. What a nice view of an idyllic cabin and the Norris Glacier by Winter and Pond.
Please email questions. Our opening bid is the reserve amount. We pack with great care using heavy cardboard. We will COMBINE PURCHASES tosave shipping costs, but you must wait for our invoice.
