Irish helmet Vickers M27(in camo) in excellent collectible condition. Kit. The manufacturer's stamp and helmet number are on the back of the helmet skirt. Labelled liner, horsehair pads . These unique helmets were the result of Ireland's struggle for independence. In the early twenties, a young independent state was faced with the need to equip its army of 10, 000 people with a statutory helmet. The Irish have recently achieved independence from England (in the war o...f independence 1919-1921). Anti-British feelings went through the roof at that time and resulted in an escalation of the internal conflict with the real Irish civil war of 1922-23. Therefore, when the Irish army of the young independent state was formed, and it took a special army helmet, the British helmet "Tommy" could not be accepted, in principle, as the helmet of the enemy. After a series of experiments with the French helmet Adrian M15, the choice fell on the same German design M16.
