I have searched online to discover the history of Maudaya Modern Toys of Japan but have been unable to learn the history of this "Western" train locomotive. There are several different variations. This one seems to be rare as it has plastic wheels, as opposed to other models with solid tin wheels with painted spokes.

When it runs on the ground..., the wheels turn due to friction, but the motivator wheels are underneath. The train will spin about and get itself out of blocked locations automatically. The head lamp functions, the smokestack portion moves out and back - and there is a great whistle sound that is made. At one point I believe the middle lamp lit up, but it seems as if the bulb there no longer functions.
The locomotive runs on 3 D-cell batteries (not included due to shipping regulations). The toy measures approximately 13" long and 6" tall.
This is not a resale, it was actually my toy as a child in the late 1960s. Really good condition. Hoping it goes to a true collector who will appreciate this tin toy locomotive.
