Here is a nice, old mid-size Axe & Hammer that dates from about the 1920's or 1930's. There is a very faint indentation logo on one side of the ax head that I believe says, "PHILA", indicating this ax was made by the Philadelphia Tool Company (see Photo 9; it's the best I can do). Also much more clearly imprinted on the ax under the logo are the words, "Cast Steel":. This axe has seen a lot of work and certainly has earned its keep as a collectible. But it is stil...l very presentable and strong, capable of many years more hard work in a carpentry shop, on a farm, in the yard, or anywhere that a hand held axe is needed. This ax has the classic Hatchet silhouette. The ax/hammer head is made of drop forged steel; the handle, the original, is made of Hickory. Both are very attractive. The ax has been sharpened, but maybe decades ago, and the blade remains fairly sharp. The blade is 3" and the tool weighs about two pounds. The handle has a beautiful patina and many interesting markings. I cleaned it with lemon oil, then re-oiled it with tung oil. I removed the surface rust from the ax/hammer head with naval jelly and #1 steel wool, then oiled it with mineral oil. The entire piece is 12 3/4"long. This is a nice vintage hatchet for all kinds of work or collecting. It would make a nice addition to a collection of other Phila Tool Co. axes. I ship USPS, FedEx or UPS, depending on which is the most practicable given the item being shipped. This would come USPS Retail Ground.
