1953 POSTWAR LIONEL TRAINSHUDSON TYPE 4-6-4 STEAM LOCOMOTIVE NO. 2055 & 6026W WHISTLE TENDER withBonus LIONEL LINES 6457 SP-TYPE LIGHTED CABOOSELOT DESCRIPTION: This lot consists of a one-owner, 1953 Postwar Lionel SteamLocomotive No. 2055 Hudson Type 4-6-4, with the correct matching Lionel Lines 6026WTender. The lot also includes a lighted SP-Type Lionel Lines Lighted Caboose. Thelocomotive has a headlight and smoke unit. The locomotive features Magna...-traction. The tender has the all metal bar-endtrucks with a draw bar and rear magnetic coupler. It is a whistle tender. A lighted LionelLines Caboose No. 6457 is included and is in great operating condition. All theitems are original Postwar Lionel. Therehave been no major modifications, repairs or repaints to these items, exceptfor replacing flaking pick-up wiring on the tender and caboose. These are from my personal collection. I have always kept my units original, and notjust replaced parts for the sake of it.DESCRIPTION OF STEAM LOCOMOTIVE AND WORKING CONDITION: The locomotive is Variation A (producedonly in 1953). The loco casting is free of any breaks and cracks. It has some paint scuffs. The front boiler plate, steps, and cowcatcherhave paint scuffs. There are no missing parts. It still has great original black paint color. All marker jewels are intact. The numbers “2055”are rubber-stamped and are nice and clear. It has the E-unit lever that protrudes throughthe top of the boiler. Internal wiringis all original. It has the manufactureplate between the center rail spring electrical pick-ups. Ihave cleaned, lubed, and tested the locomotive. It runs smoothly in forward and reverse. The headlight operates. The original smoke unit operatescorrectly. It requires SP smoke pellets. The locomotive weight is 3 pounds and 11ounces. It is a powerful puller. DESCRIPTION OF 6026W TENDER AND WORKING CONDITION: This is the originalPostwar “LIONEL LINES” 7 5/8” square No. 6026W tender that came with the Hudsonlocomotive. It has a black plastic body mounted to a sheet-metal chassis. Ithas a working whistle. It has all metal bar-endtrucks, with one rear magnetic coupler. Each truck has the light collectingrollers to power the whistle. It has“LIONEL LINES” heat-stamped in white on each side. All parts are original on the tender from theoutside to the inside, except for the pick-up wires. I replaced the old ones since the insulationwas flaking. It rolls smoothly and looksgood behind the locomotive. It has a shell crack on the front side (see photo). DESCRIPTION OF POSTWAR LIGHTED LIONEL LINES NO. 6457 SP-TYPECABOOSE AND WORKING CONDITION: This is a Lionel Lines No. 6457 SP-Type lighted caboose. This was the premier caboose Lionel used intheir premium sets starting in 1949, until production was ceased in 1952. It has LIONEL “L” imprint inside twoconcentric circles on both sides. It isVariation B, chocolate brown painted body, with a die-cast blacksmokestack. It has staple-end trucks, magnetic couplers, metal rails, ladders, brake wheels on both ends and toolboxeson both sides. The lighting works andthe plastic window inset is clear and free from yellowing and cracks. All parts of the caboose are original, andfree from cracks, dents, and burns. Itrolls smoothly. I replaced the pickup wire due to age cracks.I am not a professional grader of Lionel Trains. I have personally collected and repairedLionel trains for many years.
