Vintage - Atlas HO - Scale - Alco RS - 11 Locomotive - " Conrail 7651 " - DC Powered
Item History & Price
This AtlasHO-Scale ALCO RS-11 Diesel (#7651) “Conrail” Locomotive is in excellent shape and runs great ... like Atlas engines have a reputation for doing. It is Conrail decorated, has Kadee magnetic couplers, and is DC powered. Yes, it is used but not abused. Here’s why it’s being auctioned: I’ve had ...to “downsize” my HO-scale model railroad a bit.
A little about the prototype (based on a brief internet search): TheALCO RS‑11 was a diesel-electric locomotive of the Road Switcher-type rated at 1, 800 hp, that rode on 2-axle trucks. They were built by both ALCO (355 units) and Montreal Locomotive Works (76 units). The firstthree RS-11s were produced by ALCO in February 1956 as a demonstrator set. This locomotive, their first high-horse powerroad switcher, was intended to be a replacement for the very popular RS-3 roads witcher. The RS-11 was ALCO's answer toEMD’s very successful GP9. The turbocharged RS-11 accelerated faster, had a higher tractive effort rating, and typically used less fuel than the competition. It was also quite versatile and could be found in heavy haul freight as well as passenger service. It was produced in high-nose and low-noseversions. Conrail put sixty-three RS‑11engines in service – 9 from Lehigh Valley and the others from the Penn CentralRailroad. This engine (#7651) was most likely a fully repainted former Penn Central unit. All ALCO production units (including the remainingRS-11 locomotives) were removed from Conrail service between late 1979 and early 1980.
