~~~~~
Image: ca. 1870s-1900s studio portrait of a baseball player in a white uniform. No lettering or logos that I can see.
He holds a ball in his hand behind him, like a trick pitch about to be let go.
Found in the SW Illinois area, near St. Louis, Missouri (MO)
Contrast is a bit low and da...rk, but looks good under a magnifying glass.
Fairly good focus - about average for tintype studio cameras of the day.
NOTE: The FIRST image I have tweaked the contrast and lighting with Photoshop to show the potential detail available in the image.The SECOND photo is what the image looks like to the unaided eye, straight off my scanner with no adjustments
Back: Blank, clean black lacquer, no rust.
Condition/Notes: VG+. Semi-gloss finish. Usual odd cuts on corners, but no rust or damage (see scan).
Has a small 5-digit number impressed into the metal, to the L of the man's leg, but not sure if done by the photographer or later.----------
Note: these are "as-is" found vernacular photos, rescued from a sad end, and may have a few bends, creases or corner bumps--signs of their age. Some may have black paper stuck on back or remains of album corners (I will note this if there is any). Most are perfectly preserved, clean, sharp and glossy. ~~~~~~~About my photos: I love old snapshot photos--collect them myself. I can hardly bear to see someone's family photos get tossed out or destroyed.
I sort through family albums, scrapbooks and piles of paper at flea markets, sales and auctions looking for images to "save", to live on in someone's collection. You can adopt some of these folks through their photographs and imagine yourself in another time and place.----------
