Selling a Sargent #409 Hand Plane. I believe it is a Type 6- 1943-1950 judging by the base, iron stamp and lever cap logo. I'm selling it as I received it. I simply don't have a need for it.
The iron is pretty much full length and in good shape. It may need honing as I haven't touched it. The handle and knob are intact, tight, and have a nice finish on them.
The base itself is quite heavy and about 1/4" wider and 3/8" longer than my Stanley #4 and Millers Falls #9. Don'...t know if it compares to a Stanley 41/2.
The mouth is opening is deeper as well. Don't know if it's been enlarged or not. Because of that I've kept the price low.
These planes did not have a frog adjusting screw behind the frog, so you have to remove the iron in order to slide the frog back and forth.
