This little sailor is a 'German bisque character by mystery maker, rare model with unusual expression'. This was the description given by the auction house when I bought this doll years ago. He is in excellent condition with smooth, creamy bisque and very artistic painting. He has an open mouth with unusual modeling....the two square upper teeth and his defined tongue are molded into the porcelin of the mouth opening. His eyes do not close, I assume that the hea...d is stuffed; but he does have a crier that makes a noise when you lay him down. His perfect bisque head does have a paint rub in the back, but no chips or dings. It is incised on the back at the neck with the numbers 21-12. He's on a chunky compo toddler body with side hinged legs. His hands and fingers have no dings or chips, and the rest of the body appears to be totally original and I see no chips. I did not remove his top....it's stitched on, but he does have an old one piece knit undergarment. The sailor suit is wonderful made of light weight wool fabric with cotton trims, and a 'dickey' under the top. I find one small hole under one arm, otherwise it's in excellent condition with a matching sailor hat. He also wears old white leather shoes and antique socks. Please see all of the pictures and enlarge to see details of this cute doll, and email with any questions. Thanks for looking!
