Prolific in his writing, Mr Will R. Bird was well respected by Veterans' Groups so became a powerful, national voice for Veterans' rights and Veterans' issues. He wrote a powerful serial piece in Macl...ean's Magazine that later became a bestseller: "Thirteen Year's Later" described the emotional and physical sacrifices of the soldiers during AND AFTER the War. In it he wrote of his 1931 journey through the landscape of Ypres, Passchendaele, Arras, The Somme, Cambrai and Mons.
Bird wrote of the impending unveiling of the monument at Vimy Ridge, and , as Norm Christie claims" to have struck a deep chord with many veterans... " . It was one of the motivators for enduring public support of the construction of the Vimy memorial during the Depression. His writing was a rallying recruitment (dare I say, solicitation) of pilgrims for the 1936 tour and unveiling of the monument.
Unfortunately, and Ironically Mr Bird could not attend the 1936 ceremonies in France.
Note: this booklet is on good condition. Unfortunately it was folded in two quite some time ago but it hasn't marred the visual or legible integrity in any way.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
