I am offering for sale a rare U.S. ARMY / AIR FORCE B-4 Type WW2 Pilots Crew Flyers Bag BOB Mcgregor from utah . Robert (Bob) Alpine McGregor OUR HERO Born Feb. 23, 1923 in Salt Lake City Utah. Died Sept. 6, 2010 of complications due to surgery. Born to Merle Sevy McGregor and Dr. Alpine W McGregor. Graduated East High School, June 1940 and attended the UofU two years until enlisting in the Army Air Corps at the outbreak of World War II. Married his childhood sweetheart Elinor...e Chesley on Aug. 21, 1941 in Lubbock, TX. After receiving his Air Corps wings as a pilot, he was transferred to North Africa and on to Italy as a heavy bomber pilot flying B-24 Liberator bombers. After flying 18 successful missions, Bob was shot down after experiencing engine problems over Stir Austria. Once seeing his remaining crew was safely away from his ship, he bailed out only to be fired on by enemy ME-109 fighters. Bob survived to the ground and immediately was going to be hanged by angry locals. The Nazi SS rescued him due to his officer status and he was interred in a German POW camp in Barth Germany for 14 months until being rescued by the Russian army. Upon his return to the states he went to work for Murray Plumbing and Appliance Co. in Murray, UT and managed this company until his retirement as President in 1990 after 44 years. In retirement Bob loved his close neighbors and friends and his outing with his retired friends, the ROMEO's (Retired Old Men Eating Out). Preceded in death by his wife Elinore Dec. 27, 1989. Survived by his four children, Bonnie (Mike) Leiser, Ken (Linda) McGregor, John (Irish) McGregor, Shel (Allan) Christensen, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of a funeral, Bob's wishes were to be memorialized by his family and friends at a date to be announced. He will be missed by all.
