Vintage EeGee Barbie Clone LILLI Wendy Babs African American MISS BABETTE BIN
Item History & Price
Here's a rare African American Barbie clone doll dressed in the vintage outfit she has been stored in for 30+ years! This Hong Kong Lilli type doll is Miss Babette by the EeGee Company. There is an excellent website featuring clone dolls, thebolddoll.com, which I used to identify her. She is marked on the back of her neck E.G., with the number 24 underneath the letters. This doll is from an adult collector's estate; she was never a child's toy. She is i...n Excellent, as found condition and her outfit is a factory manufactured dress with matching bloomers underneath. She looks very much like a Zydeco Queen with her ruffled dance dress on. She will come with the red dance dress, matching bloomers, and white clone open toe shoes. The Kaiser doll stand is not included in this auction. I have collected Barbie and vintage fashion dolls for 30+ years, and I scrutinize my items very closely. If you have a question that I haven't answered, please ask me:)
Her hair is very soft and still has lots of curl in the ponytail part. I don't think her hair was ever brushed much, as it is still shiny and not frizzy at all. As she has lain on her hair for many years, the original hair set with a big curled ponytail, is not perfect but looks nice. Her bangs lay down smoothly against her head. Her red ribbon in her ponytail is a replacement. Her face paint is nice with little if any wear. She has the Bild Lilli style red lips and super arched eyebrows. And she looks very sophisticated with her smokey eyeshadow and eyeliner. Her pearl drop earrings have not stained her head at all. Some of the pearl coating has come off of her earrings.
Her body is in Excellent shape, with no stains or poke marks. As noted on thebolddoll.com website, this doll has squishy vinyl arms with the same hands as the Ideal Tammy dolls. The body is a blown vinyl and there are a few flaws from the factory molding process. On the doll's right inner thigh, there is a small burr/tiny rough piece of vinyl, that won't show with her bloomers on. You can see it in her back view nude body shot, it is a very small flaw. There also is a subtle darker line visible on the front of her torso, running from her shoulder to the her crotch. You can see this in the front nude body shot. In the nude back torso pic, there is a similar, but slightly lighter faint line that runs from her shoulder to her butt. There are a couple faint scratches on her middle back, to the left of her spine that are 1/4" and 1/2" long. You can see them in the back nude shot, just barely. The other flaw to note is that her left arm is very swingy. All of her other limbs are tight at the joints and pose well. But I believe her left arm is swingy because the inner opening for her arm inside the torso was formed too large in the molding process. You might be able to fix this by adding a flexible glue inside the torso to make the arm opening smaller, but I am leaving the doll as found. As she is, the arm is secure inside the torso, it won't fall out, but it is really swingy. I can get the arm to balance in a high wave, but that's about it for posing.
The red print dance dress with matching bloomers is clean and closes in back with sewn on snaps. The white ric rac trim is still nice and clean. Her bloomers have an elastic waist and ric rac trim around the leg hems. There is an 3/8" area at the back elastic waist, where the pants material pulled away from the elastic.
