This little darling was pictured in my 2013 article in Antique Doll Collector called, "Alsace, France: History, Dolls, and Beloved Uncle Hansi." She is just beautiful! She is an 8.5" tall doll circa 1910s ) from the Parisian firm S.F.B.J. is marked 60 and has a bisque head made from Jumeau molds. She has a closed mouth. She has a composition body and human hair wig with a little braid in the front. She has a composition body. She is all original and wears her typical folklore costume t...hat is decorated with sequins and ribbon! She has black leather shoes and white stockings. She is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Light fraying of her ribbon in the front and her head is loosely strung, but otherwise, she is absolutely beautiful!In my Antique Doll Collector article I wrote, "The costume of Alsatian women consisted of a large bow in their hair, often decorated with a rosette of the French flag as a sign of patriotism..." (Germany occupied Alsace during this time)... "Protestant women would wear a black bow while Catholic women wore a red bow. It is said that the Alsace bow, a tradition that began in the 1800s, grew larger and larger over the years. The growth in size of the Alsace bow symbolized an increased sense of Alsatian nationalism. The Alsatian women typically had a “corselet” that laced in front with hooks. Their clothing was frequently decorated with ribbons, sequins, or beads. They wore an apron in a variety of colors, most commonly white and black.
