Early Artist Character Doll Elizabeth1? Queen Of England NIADA Rare. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. This 11-inch vintage doll is utterly fascinating. She has a hand-sculpted, papier mache head, a cloth wrapped wire armature body and upper extremities, rolled, papier mache hands and possibly lower legs of porcelain.Likely made by a founding member of NIADA (National Institute of American Doll Artists), there is extreme and realistic detailing, not only in the facial modeling, but in th...e styling and choice of materials used in the clothing too.In part, wearing a real fur and black-bead-trimmed, Elizabethan walking dress and a fully-lined black velvet bonnet, there is no doubt that she was made to represent one of the early Queens of England.Interestingly, not only does her face resemble Elizabeth 1, but she was made with the same red hair (mohair), as her predecessor. As pictured, the doll is not perfect. Her most significant detractions include facial paint loss, damage to the right stocking (stitched repair) and a partial loss of the applied leather sole of the right shoe.As expected for accurate representation, the clothing was entirely hand sewn. In addition to the outer clothing, is a stiff fabric undergarment, intended as a hoop skirt. Nice accents include a lace ruff, and matching lace at the cuffs. On the right index finger, is a large and regal, gold-colored ring.Interestingly, Elizabeth 1 was the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, his second wife, who was executed two-and-a-half years after Elizabeth's birth. Anne's marriage to Henry VIII was annulled, and Elizabeth was declared illegitimate.Elizabeth 1 reigned however, as the Queen of England and Ireland, from November 1558-until March 1603.Please see my numerous photos to follow.Thank you.
