These stamps were printed in sheets of 120, (instead of 64), and are distinguishable by the colorgradations, which correspond to the perforatedissue from 1868 and not to the non-perforated prints of 1867.
The first postage stamps in Italywere issued by the Sardinian K...ingdom on 1 January 1851. The first stamps of the Papal Stateswere issued at the beginning of 1852. All the definitive Papal Statesstamps feature the Papal Crown above theKeys of St. Peter within frames of various sizes.The Roman scudo was the currency of the Papal States until 1866. It wassubdivided into 100 baiocchi, eachof 5 quattrini.In 1866, the scudo wasreplaced by the lira. The exchange rate used was 5.375 lire = 1 scudo.
