Tuscany issued its first adhesive postage stamps in April 1851.
The stamps depict a crowned lion resting a paw on a shield with thefleur-de-lis. and differed only in color and denomination.
They were initially issued in denominations of soldi, crazie and quattrino. The Tuscan lira was divi...ded into 12 crazie, or 20 soldi or 60 quattrini. Thestamps were engraved and printed at the Grand Ducal Printing Office in FlorenceA new series of PROVISSIONAL STAMPS (GovernoProvvisorio) was issued in 1860 the lion being replaced with the arms of theHouse of Savoy. In 1860, Tuscany was annexed to Sardinia afterwhich Tuscany used the stamps of Sardinia.
