They were immortalized in the Iliad. Homer mentions them in Book 2 in which they are part of the Greek army that invades Troy.Their origin had an interesting mythological beginning. According to Hesiodic Catalogue of Women, Zeus had an affair with Thyia and she bore two sons: Magnetes and Macedones. Thyia’s extended family would have children and create the tribes that would form Ancient Greece. The Magnetes occupied the mountain-systems of Ossa and Pelion on the eastern border of Thessaly. Their long coastline on the open sea was harborless, and their chief towns, Meliboea, Homolion, and Rhizus, were very small. They became known as the perioikoi to the invading Thessalians and had to surrender the coastal district round Pagasae.A True Auction Environment – Auctions start at $.99 with No Minimums and No Reserves.
