Elegant solid deco style unique Elliott mantle clock with nice provenance. Unusual case. See and enlarge photos for details of state and faults. Sound overall condition. Running well. Dial good. Apprx 14 H x 18 W cm, 1220 g weight. Retailer S Greenough & Sons Bolton. Case mahagony type? wood and veneer and ebonising. Punched marks on base. The 1954 commemorative plate is hallmarked Sheffield 1948 (silver) and must have been in stock somewhere for a while. You can google the school ...and it has since been demolished. Muriel Shanks was Headmistress 1948-55. A little piece of social history. There is a small dent next to the frieze top right. Could be filled or inlaid. There is a shrinkage crack inside the roof of the case but this is quite stable being secured by the applied top piece of wood. The crack is almost invisible from the front, you really have to know it is there to see it. More visible from the back as the veneer runs oppositely and you can also see horizontal evidence of the separate top section. The escapement is English, more usually French? An attractive interesting collectible clock. There may be some old pupils who would love to own this but they would be about the same age as me!More info, photos, please ask.Thank you for viewing.
