1935 Vintage Photo by INTERNATIONAL NEWS. View of the United States Navy Cruiser USS Memphis. The USS Memphis rescued most of the crew of the US Navy Dirigible Airship USS Macon, when that great aircraft was forced down on the Pacific Ocean, and sank at appoint near Pont Sur, California, 7 boatloads of survivors were taken aboard by the Memphis, and the Flagship USS Pennsylvania rescued a dozen members of the air crew. USS Memphis (CL-13) was an Omaha-class light cru...iser, originally classified as a scout cruiser, of the United States Navy. She was the fourth Navy ship named for the city of Memphis, Tennessee.
