You arebidding on a museum quality 1960 bowl by the late renowned potter and glazemaster Harding Black. DESCRIPTION...: This stellar mid-Century bowl finds HardingBlack at the peak of his ceramic prowess. In keeping with the potter’s methodology, a lovely simple form serves asa canvas for a stunning display of glaze wizardry. Theinterior of the bowl has light blue and milky white tones that provides abackdrop for a series of jewel-like, glassy sang de boeuf rays. The latter emanate forth from a shimmering sangde boeuf circle with a creamy white center. Thishighly collectible bowl measures 8 3/4” in diameter and stands 2 1/4” high atthe rim. It is in mint condition- nochips, cracks or repairs- and is signed and dated (1960) in the recessedinterior of the beautifully proportioned foot ring. This is a no reserve auction. ABOUT HARDING BLACK: The late Harding Black spent over 60 yearsthrowing pots and making ceramic pieces in San Antonio, Texas. He is best known for his beautiful glazes andis considered by many to be a ceramics pioneer and one of the significanthistorical figures in 20th century American ceramics. He was self-taught and devoted his life toresearching the science of glaze technology. Mr. Black was able to discover the methods to duplicate many historicalglazes, including the ancient Chinese glazes, such as chun, flambé, oxblood andoil spot.
