FDC: THIS IS A GREAT VINTAGE 1975 FDC WITH AN ADD-ON CACHET.CIVIL WAR BATTLE OF SPRING HILL, TENNESSEE The Prelude to the Battle of Franklin                  November 28-29 1864 Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest’s  4, 000 troopers andUnion General Jame...s H. Wilson’s cavalry skirmished throughout the day as the Confederates advanced.                                                                           They forced Wilson north to Hurt’s corner and prevented them from interfering with General Hood’s advancing infantry.                                                                         On the morning of November 29, Forrest ordered his men to turn west toward Spring Hill. They ran into Union troops that were protecting the village on three sides. Forrest received a message from General Hood to hold position at all hazards until the infantry could arrive.                          General Patrick Cleburne’s division arrived to Forrest’s left by                        midafternoon.                                                                                                               Forrest’s men moved south and attempted to drive off the “small” cavalry from a knoll south of McCutcheon’s Creek. But in reality, they were engaging withGeneral Luther Bradley’s  brigade that drove them back with heavy artillery support. FREEMASON: General Forrest was a member of Angerona Lodge No. 168,                       Memphis, Tennessee.FIRST DAY OF ISSUE, FIRST DAY COVER, FDOIPOSTMARKED: MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE, NOVEMBER 8, 1975
