This is an early Pottery piece by Bjorn Wiinblad. 1959. He created this during his time in Denmark. The glaze is a wonderful soft yellow with bright teals, cream, and browns. This piece came from an old prominent family in the Oklahoma City area back in the early 1960’s. The dimensions are 17.25 x 12 x 3”. This is a lovely piece with a few areas on one corner with some glaze loss (see pictures). I also have the Dinnerware set that he created to go with the platter. See my other lis...ting.
Bjørn Wiinblad was a Danish painter and ceramicist known for his whimsical illustrations and carefully designed household objects. Wiinblad was considered an admired creative talent in his native country and he is widely collected worldwide. Born on September 20, 1918 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He worked extensively with the Nymolle and Rosenthal pottery companies, designing a commemorative annual Christmas plate for the latter in 1971. His illustrations for Hans Christian Anderson’s The Swineherd won an award from the American Library Association, and were made into an animated short in 1986. He was awarded the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s Cultural Prize in 1995, with his works held in collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen. Wiinblad died on June 8, 2006 in Kongens Lyngby, Denmark at the age of 87.
