Up for auction is this really nice old blue decorated stoneware crock or jar. We think this was made in the Strasburg VA area, and likely from the shop of Solomon Bell. It is NOT signed. The jar stands 8.5" tall by 5.5" in diameter at the base. I would think it is a half gallon capacity, and the smaller the jar, usually the harder they are to find. As you can see, the jar has several large, flat rim chips. There are NO cracks. I really looked hard at that "line" running down the side f...rom the rim to the base. It is NOT a repair. It looks like some glob just dripped down the side of it. You can't scrape anything off of it, for sure. I bought this is a box lot at a local country auction last week. I guess they thought since it was chipped, it was not worth much of anything. No, it's not mint, but it's not that bad, either.
