This auction is for a very nice running Large Rockford pocket watch probably made in the 1890's I don't know how to get it apart so I am not going to try, but I am guessing it is a size 18, it's 2 1/4 inches across from side to side and pretty thick. I think it is probably a silveroid case, and the crystal is very clean. This is a very nice rare pocket watch that anyone will be proud to own. A great gift idea...
In 1866, right around the time that John C. Ad...ams from Waltham Watch Company joined a partnership that spawned the Elgin National Watch Company, he went to Rockford, Illinois with the idea of opening a factory there. The residents of the town were not enthusiastic about the idea and the entrepreneur took his idea to Elgin, Illinois. A few years later, the idea of increasing the industrial capabilities of the Rockford were presented to the town and 400 of its citizens got $150, 000 together to fund what became Rockford Watch Company. In its 39 years of operation, the company manufactured just under 1 million watches – half of which were produced between 1902 and 1915
